Operation Big Book Bag
Operation Big Book Bag is a program designed to address the needs, challenges and issues that face school-aged children who are educationally at-risk, in financially challenged households, in local homeless shelters and extended-care hospitals and facilities. Through this program, chapters and members collect and donate educational materials, equipment and school supplies where ever there is a need.
Epsilon Kappa Sigma Chapter, The Urban League of SW Ohio and in coordination with the Soror Essence Jackson and Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Dayton , Ohio was able to donate bookbags to students in need. Bookbags were received by student representatives Simeon Akins and Johnnea Coleman.
Our Sorors and our Rhosebuds assembled a total of 50 bookbags with supplies for students to begin the school year. The backpacks were presented on September3, 2021.
Also present was Mr. Sylvester Alexander, WIOA Program Coordinator for the Urban League of Greater Southwestern Ohio, who discussed the SOAR (Solid Opportunities for Advancement & Retention) Program for students.
